The term “karkkidaka “ refers to crab, the mascot for zodiac sign Cancer. The season starts when sun transit through Karkkidaka raasi(star sign). It’s also believed that Lord Rama was born in this star sign.
The three seasons starting from Shishira, Vasanta and Grishma are known as “Aadhaana kaala” or “Uttaraayana kaala”, the period when celestial SUN drains the body of its vital energy.
The three seasons starting from Varsha, Sharad and Hemanta are known as “Visarga kaala” or “Dakshinaayana kaala”, the period when body regains its energy from the environment.
Thus the season Varsha or Karkkidaka raasi makes it ideal to carry out Detoxification to Rejuvenation for the human body. The Vata dosha, responsible for all kinetic movements in the body, starts provoking and Pitta dosha, responsible for metabolic and enzymatic action, starts vitiating during this period. Also the unhygienic water resources and environment tends to vitiate the Kapha dosha too.
Hence treatments done in this period detoxifies the body, rejuvenates the body cells, maintains the equilibrium of three doshas and rewards the body with self-developed immunity. And hence, Karkkidaka chikitsa(Therapy) strengthens and supports the body to replenish and maintain the vital energy in the succeeding three months. The divine thoughts and practices followed during this period in deed of Lord Rama, also brings the spiritual/psychological healing together with physical remedial.
